Breaking down barriers

Meet Vincent – he has been Chair of ASFA for approx 3 years now, and is also Chair of AWSUM. Vincent is spending a lot of his own time on various projects, such as creating Harm Reduction leaflets for fake drugs, collecting drug samples for testing with WEDINOS, and is a Public Information Officer for Narcotics Anonymous.

One of Vincent’s main projects is to focus on breaking down the barriers and stigma around substance misuse and the impact this can have on the family. He is also looking at mental health, anxiety, depression and the untreated effects of addiction.

Vincent recognised that the BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) communities are not well represented within these areas. Because of this, he plans to visit Mosque’s around Cardiff to help educate these communities. Vincent currently has a few links from the Muslim and Hindu communities helping him with his project. He is also linking in with contacts from Public Health Wales, who are hoping to help adapt the ACE’s video (Adverse Childhood Experiences). Vincent is looking to adapt the ACE’s video to focus on people of BAME communities which would help him when visiting.

If you would like to link in with Vincent on this project, or any of his other projects, please feel free to contact us and Vincent will be in touch with you shortly after.
